lp - can't set defaults for printer

Category: Solaris -- Administration Tips

I'm having trouble with a printer we need to force to print in
compressed/10cpi/pica font.. The printer wants the option as -oc , not -o
cpi=10 or -o cpi=pica. If I pass a command such as banner hi | lp -d
printer -oc it works fine, however setting it via lpadmin -d printer -oc
doesn't work, neither does manually editing the printer/configuration
file. if i try to set cpi=10
or any other option that would be considered
standard, it balks that the setting is impossible.

The printer is using a laserjet driver and is under the control of HP
JetAdmin.

We need the font to default to 10 cpi/pica or in its own parlence
"compressed".

If anyone can shed any light, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.
