Sun 280R: RSC & TTYA

Category: Solaris -- Administration Tips

We have a Sun 280R server that we have been trying to access via console for
the past couple of days with little success. Here's our problem:

1) It does have a RSC card and we can connect via Hyperterminal and get
data, but it prompts for username/password and everything we have tried does
not work. We've tried taking out the battery on the card and waiting a couple
of
minutes & resetting the card, hoping this would reset the admin password to
null, but no dice. We tried a blank username, but that didn't work either. We
tried using the same uname/password combo, but that didn't work either.

2) As a result of not being able to connect via RSC, we took out the card
and connected to TTYA. Again, we see data as the server boots, but eventually
it stops booting, telling us to either enter the root password to login or hit
Cntrl-D to continue the boot process. Neither one works. It's almost like it
is not accepting keyboard input. We've even tried connecting a USB keyboard,
but still nothing. We've got to get to the data on this server, so if anyone
has any ideas or suggestions, we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
