Follow-up: Sun 280R: RSC & TTYA
Thank you everyone for your advice. Still not having much luck, but I thought
I would let you know some more details:
As the server is booting, I am able to hit Stop-A and get the OK prompt. From
there, I have typed the following:
screen output
keyboard input
I then typed go to continue the boot process. However, it still locks up
here:
"Type control-d to proceed
with normal startup, (or give root password for
system maintenance):"
But it is unresponsive. We know the root password, but it does not respond -
either with this or if we try control-d.
Now above this are the following messages:
"The system is coming up. Please wait.
Checking ufs filesystems
/dev/md/rdsk/d0: No such device
Can't open /dev/md/rdsk/d0: No such device
/dev/md/rdsk/d0: CAN'T CHECK FILE SYSTEM.
/dev/md/rdsk/d0: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY
WARNING - Unable to repair one or more filesystems. Run fsck manually (fsck
filesystem . . . ).
Exit the shell when done to continue the boot process."
Any ideas?

Subject: Sun 280R: RSC & TTYA
We have a Sun 280R server that we have been trying to access via console for
the past couple of days with little success. Here's our problem:
1) It does have a RSC card and we can connect via Hyperterminal and get
data, but it prompts for username/password and everything we have tried does
not work. We've tried taking out the battery on the card and waiting a couple
of minutes & resetting the card, hoping this would reset the admin password to
null, but no dice. We tried a blank username, but that didn't work either. We
tried using the same uname/password combo, but that didn't work either.
2) As a result of not being able to connect via RSC, we took out the card
and connected to TTYA. Again, we see data as the server boots, but eventually
it stops booting, telling us to either enter the root password to login or hit
Cntrl-D to continue the boot process. Neither one works. It's almost like it
is not accepting keyboard input. We've even tried connecting a USB keyboard,
but still nothing. We've got to get to the data on this server, so if anyone
has any ideas or suggestions, we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
